Cam Newton answers critics of memorable interview

“I’ve been on record to say I’m a sore loser”, the Panthers QB said Tuesday, via the Charlotte Observer.

“I want to stay with the Broncos for 15 to 20 years”, the upcoming free agent said, “but, you know, money talks, right?”

We’ve spent most of the post-Super Bowl week hearing various athletes and pundits criticize Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton… and the hits keep on coming.

“I’ve got no more tears to cry”, he said.

“I have seen so much about it. I have seen so much blown out of proportion”. “It was a matter of him channeling all of his talents in the right way and I think you saw him do that this year”. When I look back at how I handled it, I promised to never be that person again. I said it since day one.

“I’m going to drink a lot of Budweisers tonight”, Manning, who hadn’t yet left the field, announced to the entire world after his Denver Broncos had beaten the Carolina Panthers on Sunday evening. “I’ve seen numerous quarterbacks throw interceptions and the effort afterwards they don’t go”.

“I know one thing: I wouldn’t want to play them”.

But Tuesday, Newton stopped to talk with the media while cleaning out his locker at Bank of America Stadium. I think emotions take over. The Broncos recovered the ball, and on the ensuing drive C.J. Anderson found the back of the end zone to seal a Denver Super Bowl victory. I have people representing my situation as well and it’s going to be a peaceful thing.

The consensus here seems to be the same – it’s understandable that Cam was upset and angry, but there were probably better ways to handle that press conference.

At one point during Newton’s almost seven-minute interview, his teammates walked behind the media gathered three-deep around his locker and starting saying, “We love you, Cam”, and even sang him a song lightning the mood. But we didn’t lose that game because of that fumble. I want the buses to be late for the airport if we’re travelling.

Important: These are all simply “guys who can get to the quarterback”, as opposed to simply edge rushers, classic 4-3 defensive end types.
