Cam Newton, Josh Norman fight during Panthers training camp
Football being the testosterone-driven environment that it is, it makes sense that we routinely hear reports from training camps where elite athletes fresh off a six-month layoff getting the competitive juices flowing and starting fights with one another.
While it’s a normal practice, there were probably some nervous members of the Carolina Panthers today as their 0 million franchise quarterback got involved in a scuffle.
Nine days before Josh Norman ended up on the ground during a fight with Cam Newton at training camp, the cornerback was completely complementary of the Panthers’ quarterback.
“You look for the positive out of it. Hey, (Newton) stood up for himself, (Norman) stood up for himself, and I know it’s the quarterback, but we treat everybody the same”. An angry Newton turned and ran down Norman near the goal line after the play had been blown dead by coaches.
When Norman made it to the end zone he and Newton exchanged words, which led to a fight.
“You’ve never seen a guy in a red (non-contact) jersey like me,”Newton said, via Joe Person of The Charlotte Observer”.
Rivera said he’s not anxious about Newton and Norman resuming the fight in the Wofford dorms.
The defense picked up its intensity in part at the prompting of defensive end Charles Johnson, who rallied them despite sitting out practice with a calf injury. “I know something”, Newton shouted at Norman after being pulled away by running back Jonathan Stewart and fullback Mike Tolbert. David Newton of ESPN.com called him the “biggest surprise” of camp, as Ginn appears to be ahead of the younger Corey Brown in the race to be the deep threat of the offense. “I’m here for” my teammates.
His maturity issues aside, the most polarizing aspect of Newton is his on the field ability. I’m not going to just dwell on this particular setting.
But Newton said he do it over again. I’ve seen the video that people posted.
“What’s the blueprint of a franchise quarterback?” Newton said. “Yeah, but there’s a lot of what I do that is not prototypical”. But it’s still the preseason so I’m working on it.
“I know I’m gonna get ragged by Cam”.
But the fifth-year head coach said that isnt because of something he said to the players.
