Cam Newton leads ideal Panthers past Titans
The Tennessee Titans were the latest team to fall victim to the Carolina Panthers’ undefeated season.
“That was awesome”, said Carolina coach Ron Rivera, adding he was happy the defense kept up the pressure throughout the game.
The Titans committed two turnovers in the second half of their 10th straight home loss. His strong start included a 1-yard scoring pass to Ed Dickson early in the second quarter. Even so, Newton said he was careful to avoid what he feared could be a “trap game” against the Titans, who were coming off a win at New Orleans.
“He did it all game, which I guess that’s acceptable”, Mularkey said. “We can’t deny that, but it’s really about the next game”. “And that is kind of how we have always wanted it”. “I just like doing it man. It’s not just to be boastful, but from a crowd’s response, they like seeing it”, said Newton. He made a powerful cut to the right sideline and tiptoed for around 10 yards before diving full sprint to touch the pylon with the football for six points. You can’t wait to go to work every day, whether it’s Wednesday for practice or Sunday for games. “Eventually the dam’s going to break”.
-Completed a season sweep of the AFC South. Carolina is now 10-10 all-time against the division.
Peterson ran for 203 yards and a touchdown in his record-tying sixth career 200-yard game, Cordarrelle Patterson returned a kick 97 yards for a score as the Vikings beat Oakland for their fifth straight win. Mariota only managed 185 yards passing and no TDs, meaning that the Titans put up a TOTAL of 249 yards on offense. McCluster has one touchdown run, 3 carries, 25 yards. With the Titans allowing nearly 5 yards per attempt to visiting running backs, Stewart will also have the opportunity to play quite well.
“We just didn’t do a good job of executing on third down and that starts with me”, Mariota said. Marcus Mariota completed 28 of 39 passes for 371 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Titans.
-TE Greg Olsen led Carolina with eight receptions for 80 yards, averaging 10 yards per catch.
“For the most part, everything was at your hands”, Olsen said, via ESPN.
Despite being sacked five times by the Titans’ pass rush, Newton was able to remain effective in the offense and find his receivers.
“Again, it’s one of those things where if you’re effective stopping the run, the play action doesn’t affect you either”.
Going up against a rookie quarterback should make for a big game for the Carolina defense.
In the final seven weeks of the season the Titans will play the Jacksonville Jaguars (twice), the Oakland Raiders, the NY Jets, the New England Patriots, the Houston Texans, and the Indianapolis Colts. Starting cornerbacks Perrish Cox and Jason McCourty were inactive due to injuries. To make matters worse, backup corner Bledi Wreh-Wilson left early in the second half of the game with a hamstring injury.
