Cam Newton Responds to Criticism – ‘What Makes Your Way Right?’
Newton understandably did not want to speak with the media following Sunday’s 24-10 loss to the Broncos at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. He didn’t really want to speak with the media on Tuesday, but “things have to happen”.
Tuesday, he was much more descriptive in defending his emotional reaction following the loss. “I would have been mad if I was Cam too, to be able to hear your opponent right behind me talking”, Harris said. Nor will it silence those who dislike Newton and have been outspoken in the days since the Panthers lost.
“Show me a good loser and I’ll show you a loser”, Newton said, borrowing from Vince Lombardi, as the Panthers cleaned out their lockers.
The odds makers said a low scoring Super Bowl usually translates into success for the house when it comes to the so-called prop bets – things like will so-and-so score more than so-many touchdowns, or will there be a safety, a 2-point conversion, or an overtime? Wouldn’t you have taken a hike and been supremely “pissed off” after your offensive line played as if they were a bunch of girls armed with ribbons and short mini-skirts? I think the important thing is is it’s going to be his decisions, and so where we get a chance to sit down and talk to him, and that why it’s up to Peyton to see that process.
As far as trying to be like this person, trying to be like that person, I heard numerous quotes about, ‘What if this person was in that situation, how would he have handled it? “We all handle defeat differently and it’s hard, so understand that everybody reacts differently”. I don’t dive on one fumble because the way my leg was, it could have been contorted in a way. I don’t know, but he spent half the game wearing Von Miller like an overcoat and he still managed to run around, extend plays, and put himself in harm’s way more than a little. “I want the buses to be late for the airport”. I’m not that guy.
“I’ve been on record as being a sore loser”. This league is a great league with or without me. Believe me, I mean my fellow owners were nearly mad at me. I’m not going to worry about that.
He said plenty of quarterback’s throw picks and don’t try to make the tackle and don’t get ripped for it.
And so, with the ball loose in the fourth quarter on Sunday, did Newton make to flop on it, before a niggling voice in his head said, “DANGER!” But I’m in the media, and it is my sacred duty to tarnish even the finest silver. That’s the best I can do for the Cam Newton apologists out there.
THIS is why Cam walked out (listen to what’s being said in the background).
The heart of why people loathe actual hot takes and Baylessification of sports talk is the dishonesty inherent within. “We never let him get comfortable back there”.
