Campbell, Mutch and Cabaye help Crystal Palace cruise into final
Lee Chung-Yong was named man of the match in Crystal Palace’s 4-0 win over SuperSport United at the Cape Town Stadium.
Goals from Mile Jedinak, Chung-yong Lee, Jordon Mutch and Fraizer Campbell in the first half ensured a safe passage to the final, and with numerous starting line-up playing a full 90 minutes for the first time in pre-season and with some good performances throughout the side, Pardew was happy with his players’ efforts.
Lisbon won four two on penalties to reach the final themselves.
Palace made it three 12 minutes later as Mutch produced a brilliant solo run, beating two players and chipping the goalkeeper from close range.
Alan Pardew fielded a strong Palace team with new signing Yohan Cabaye named on the bench. Bamford was played through on goal in the 64th minute but his shot was saved by Williams.
“We ran out of energy a little bit towards the end, but in the first half we had lots of energy and exploited SuperSport”.
“Remember we had no Zaha, Bolasie or Murray today, they were carrying slight knocks”.
However, Gordon Igesund rallied his troops for the second half; to the extent that they were arguably the better side after the break. Crystal Palace were convincing 4-0 winners and will meet either Ajax Cape Town or Sporting Lisbon in the final on Sunday.
“We have players with experience of different levels and that’s going to show”. We’ve got such good characters in this changing room that when I came down here last year they made me feel so welcome, and everyone does that for the new guys to make them feel a part of it. Group bonding is so important, it’s part of coming away to a foreign country.
Matsatsantsa couldn’t muster up any meaningful chances on goal in the first half and they went into the half time break, 4-0 down. They made it much more hard for us and it became a much more even affair.
