Can the Carolina Panthers Go Undefeated?
Quarterback Cam Newton threw five short touchdown passes as the Carolina Panthers won their 10th game in a row, smashing the Washington Redskins 44-16 on Sunday afternoon at Bank of America Stadium.
The Redskins committed five turnovers, quarterback Kirk Cousins was sacked five times and the Panthers and star quarterback Cam Newton ran over, around and through a porous Washington defense.
Newton became the first Carolina quarterback to throw four TD passes in the first half as the Panthers jumped to a 31-14 lead.
The Panthers improved the best season start in franchise history to 10-0, scoring off of four Washington turnovers to remain one of two unbeaten teams in the league. Six of those teams won the Super Bowl.
All of that matters little to tight end Greg Olsen. Carolina has a plethora of red zone weapons to use to their advantage, and Newton exploited the Redskins’ defense over and over.
“It makes for a very short turnaround, and if we do anything, we have to make sure we are getting our rest, hydrating, eating properly and staying off our feet”, Rivera said after Carolina’s 44-16 victory over Washington.
“It felt good to get back and play football and help your team win”, Romo said. They just beat us. “I know we scored a lot of touchdowns, and that’s obviously what you’re looking for”.
Are the Redskins really as sorry as they looked in recent lopsided losses to two undefeated teams, the Patriots and the Panthers?
One of the few positives in Sunday’s game was Andre Roberts’ 99-yard touchdown on a kick return. In the receiving end, Devin Funchess had 64 yards and one touchdown in four receptions while Jerricho Cotchery added 57 yards in four catches.
In a game where they lose by seven, sure give the refs from flack for blown calls.

This year, Newton’s completion percentage is down from last season, and while his touchdown percentage and adjusted yards per attempt are up, his interception percentage and sack percentage are also up.
Philadelphia actually took a 7-0 lead on a 39-yard pass from Mark Sanchez to Josh Huff but were then left behind by Winston and the Bucs.
On that play, Funchess used both his hands and build to go over Chris Culliver on a scorching throw from Newton. Just some calls here and there swung the momentum.
Jonathan Stewart topped 100 yards for only the second time this season.
The only negative was leaving the starters in to begin the fourth quarter; with another game on Thursday and the result no longer in doubt, Rivera could have had a quicker hook on Newton and his other star players. A fumble by Rams quarterback Case Keenum at the St. Louis 41 with 54 seconds to go set up the winning field goal.
For the season, Newton has a 20-to-9 touchdown-to-interception ratio, and has also run for six scores.
