Can You Please Help Identify this Young Girl?
The child was wearing white leggings with black polka dots. A zebra-print blanket also was found.
Investigators have yet to identify the remains of a child found dead on a Boston Harbor beach, but they dead speak on the case Tuesday. Using photos of her remains, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children created a composite image of what the girl may have looked like when she was alive. Police will investigate, but believe this particular child has been missing too long.
The post has more than 640,000 shares.
But authorities still haven’t identified the girl.
‘It has by far shattered our previous record for Facebook views, ‘ said Jake Wark, a spokesman for Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley, whose office is overseeing the investigation.
Adding to the mystery is that investigators still haven’t been able to figure out how she died. There were no signs of trauma to the body, and an autopsy performed by the state’s medical examiner’s office was not able to determine the manner or cause of the girl’s death.
Since releasing the sketch of what the unidentified girl would have looked like, 45 million people have seen the picture on social media, Conley said, and dozens of tips have come in.
She weighed just 30 pounds and was about three-and-a-half feet tall.
Her tiny, lifeless body was uncovered by a dog walker at Deer Island, which juts out into Massachusetts Bay just beyond Logan global Airport.
However, no one seems to know who this young girl was.
All were found to be safe and well.
Conley this week made a public appeal to the girl’s parents.
Her death and the mystery surrounding her identity has touched a chord in many people.
“We are extremely grateful for the many tips we have received, and we ask the public to keep sharing this little girl’s photo and information so that we may continue to receive and follow up on leads”, the Massachusetts State Police said on its Facebook page. “She’s someone’s child! Surely, someone knows something!” commented one Facebook user. “Shared in San Diego”, wrote another.
While police await toxicology results to determine how the girl died, Conley told reporters that investigators are still unsure if the body washed ashore or was placed there because her body was reasonably intact and hadn’t decayed much.
‘I’m about to become a great-grandmother, so it just touches you, ‘ she said.
“How can nobody miss her?”
