Canada adds 6600 jobs in July, loses full-time posts
In July, U.S. employers added 215,000 nonfarm payroll jobs with jobs growing in retail trade, health care, professional and technical services as well as financial activity, according to the report.
That rate has climbed 1.5% since January.
At this time last year the jobless rate for London-St.
Prince Edward Island’s unemployment rate stood at 11.6 per cent and Newfoundland and Labrador’s was 11.9 per cent. Meanwhile, Nova Scotia’s jobless rate was the lowest in the region at 8.1 per cent. That was coupled with a loss of 4,300 jobs in the province.
Statistics Canada also released three-month moving average unemployment rates for major cities.
The economy added 6,600 jobs during the month, leaving the nation’s unemployment rate unchanged at 6.8 per cent, Statistics Canada said today in Ottawa.
The unemployment rate remained at 6.8 per cent for the sixth straight month.
The gains reflected more self- employed and part-time work, with the number of full-time jobs falling 17,300.
The agency also says an additional 41,000 people considered themselves self-employed in July.
