Canadian para-snowboarder Alex Massie races to Winter X Games silver
Canadians claimed 11 medals in total at the four-day X Games, including five gold.
The Tallinn native beat Tiril Sjastad Christiansen’s and Johanne Killito to make history.
First-time Winter X Games medallist Landeros was just 0.338 seconds behind and was followed onto the podium by fellow American Kevin Bramble, 0.696 seconds off the pace.
This is Massie’s second X Games medal, as he won a bronze in the same event a year ago, his rookie season.
Wells’s consistency was impressive – he took the lead with a first-round 88.33, backing up with a solid second run 84.33 before unleashing the near-flawless final effort to secure gold, the first Kiwi to do so at the Winter X-Games.
“To have her here when I have won the gold…” Sunday morning’s gold was Wells’ first, joining three silvers and a bronze the 25-year-old has earned in Aspen’s halfpipe, slopestyle course and big air venue.
Wells prevailed over Gus Kenworthy from the United States and Oystein Braaten of Norway. Beau-James Wells was due to compete at X Games but had to withdraw after suffering a broken collarbone during training for the International Ski Federation World Cup at Mammoth Mountain, USA last week.
