Candidates hammer Trump over KKK, fear he’ll be ‘unstoppable’ after Super Tuesday
The candidate who secures a majority of those delegates will be the presidential nominee for their respective party.
He said the questioner in the earlier interview had asked about Duke and various “other groups”, saying he had difficulty with an earpiece he was wearing for the phone-in interview and didn’t want to disavow groups whose identity he didn’t know. Clinton crushed Sanders in SC on Saturday, and her strong support from African-Americans suggests she should do very well in the multiple, large Southern states that vote on Super Tuesday.
Solid wins there and beyond on Super Tuesday could give her a almost insurmountable delegate count toward the nomination.
The former Secretary of State and New York Senator has won three of four contests against Sanders, but SC is her biggest win so far.
Tuesday’s contests include primaries and caucuses in Alabama, Alaska (GOP only), American Samoa (Democrats only), Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Dakota (GOP only), Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia and Wyoming (GOP only).
Lagging behind Trump are Sen. Sen Ted Cruz (R-Texas) tried to stick to his so-called positive message, telling Trump over Twitter, “you’re better than this”. More than 800 delegates will be up for grabs for the Democats, out of the 2,383 need for nomination.
Citing other upcoming primaries in states like Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, Kasich told CNN “there is a lot more to go…”
Trump’s incendiary campaign has infuriated Republican rivals, including mainstream favorite Rubio who has intensified his personal attacks and stressed Trump would have trouble in a general election.
The Democrats also have a special category of operative called the “super delegate” included in those totals.
Cruz, Rubio and Kasich are hoping the party will unite around on of them to beat Trump. Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson is in second place with 14% and Senator Rubio comes in third with 13%.
“They have to win a state”. The crowd hooted and Trump briefly quieted them.
Trump punched back against Rubio, calling him “Little Marco”, mocking him for sweating on the campaign trail and warning that Rubio could not stand up to strong men like Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Cruz edged Trump in the first state to hold a contest, Iowa. Certainly not Ted Cruz, he said, “and God forbid that Donald Trump become the GOP candidate“.
Trump was asked Sunday whether he rejected support from David Duke, the former KKK Grand Dragon after Duke told his radio followers that a vote against Trump was equivalent to “treason to your heritage”.
“Here is what is likely to happen tomorrow, at the end of tomorrow: Donald Trump is, in all likelihood, is going to have a big chunk of delegates, and we are – I believe – going to have a big chunk of delegates”. Suddenly, this state looks competitive, so Cruz shows his face to defend his home turf, dedicating time and money.
