For a team that thought it had two outstanding quarterbacks, Ohio State is simply looking for one that can be counted on.

Tulsa (2-1) stuck with the Sooners for much of the game with Dane Evans throwing for 427 yards and four touchdowns and Keyarris Garrett catching 14 passes for 189 yards.

Ohio State goes into this Week 4 matchup as not only a huge favorite.

The No. 1-ranked Buckeyes sputtered and lurched their way through a second consecutive disappointing offensive performance. Jones earned some speculation about a future in the NFL after he put together three games of championship play, and perhaps the allure of the big leagues entered Jones’ psyche going into this year. Given his reputation as an offensive mastermind, coach Urban Meyer was asked if he’s OK as commander of a defensive-driven team.

He settled on “discombobulated”, which might have been a polite way of saying confused.

Ash said that dynamic is the opposite of what he had seen throughout much of his first year in Columbus in 2014, and it is something that any team must be able to deal with in order to succeed.

We must remember that it’s only two games, but rather than just a one-game aberration, the issues have now surfaced in two straight games. The sophomore was making his first start this season. Why is this? I think several factors come into play. Hagan’s field goal came at the end of an 11-play, 41-yard drive by the Huskies. Against the Huskies, linebacker Darron Lee’s 41-yard fumble return for a touchdown late in the third quarter provided the difference.

Lee’s interception for a score was important not only for the points it produced, but because of its timing.

But if the Buckeyes’ lack of identity on offense hasn’t been due to the unsettled quarterback conundrum, as Meyer claims, then what’s to blame for the highly touted Ohio State offense not living up to its billing through the first three games of the season?

The continued hypothesis from outside observers is that Meyer’s refusal to pick an outright No. 1 guy and his insistence that the job is up for grabs on a weekly basis has actually weakened what was supposed to be the most dominant quarterbacking unit in the country.
