Cardinals’ Ace Adam Wainwright Cleared For Baseball Activity
Out most of the season with a torn left Achilles, Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright has been cleared for baseball activity and aims to secure a reliever role for St. Louis with the postseason approaching, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Derrick Goold reported Monday afternoon.
Molina was hurt last week and after seeing doctors on Monday, it has been determined that Molina will at least miss a week and likely the rest of the regular season, per multiple reports.
St. Louis star catcher Yadier Molina is getting an MRI on his left thumb, a day after spraining it while making the tag on a key double play vs. the Cubs.
Tony Cruz replaced Molina for the remainder of Sunday’s game and will be the Cardinals’ starting catcher for the Cardinals until Molina is able to return, if he does. “Regardless of what’s said by other people, we just go out, play the game and realize somebody else has to step up”. “But Cruz has had opportunities in the past”.
Cardinals All-Star catcher Yadier Molina has a partially torn ligament in his left thumb, and St. Louis hopes he might return during the regular season.
“I’d have a much higher confidence level to have him pitch in season before putting him on the [postseason] roster, ” Mozeliak said, “but we’ll see”. “I think he’ll take advantage of this”. So Wainwright is a welcome addition to a bullpen that can not seem to find the strike zone of late, as we watched three batters get walked (including one with the bases loaded) in the eighth inning of yesterday’s win against the Cubs.
Cruz will become the everyday catcher in Molina’s absense. They’ve made it this far without some of their best players, so what’s another 13 games? He comes in, completely cold, had a little time to warm up and next thing you know, he’s throwing out a plus-runner in a big situation. He’s been in the middle of an apprenticeship for several years with Yadi.
