Cardinals activate Peralta and Moss, put Diaz on DL
The St. Louis Cardinals got two regulars back from injuries on Tuesday but lost shortstop Aledmys Diaz, sidelined indefinitely by a broken right thumb. Peralta started the season on the disabled list recovering from a torn ligament in his left thumb, played in 30 games and went back on the DL. When he returned to the majors July 5th he appeared to have figured it out surging with an eight game hit streak, but the mojo quickly ran out. He has 78 strikeouts in 268 at-bats.
Left-hander Dean Kiekhefer and outfielder Randal Grichuk were optioned to Triple-A Memphis.
Cardinals center fielders are batting.207 this season. Duke was acquired from the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. He will wear No. 29.
Louis is Andrew Cashner, the right hander (who hit Aledmys Diaz in the hand, which is now fractured).
The All-Star Diaz was hitting.312 with 57 RBIs and 64 runs scored. He’s on a rehab assignment recovering from an oblique injury.
Other players still on the disabled list are pitchers Lance Lynn, Trevor Rosenthal, Mitch Harris and Jordan Walden and catcher Brayan Pena.
Additionally recently-acquire reliever Zach Duke will put on a Redbird uniform Tuesday as the club opens up a three game series in Cincinnati. The Cardinals return home Friday to face the lowly Atlanta Braves.
