Cardinals Hall of Famer Lou Brock loses part of leg to infection
Lou Brock reacts after throwing out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Game Five of the National League Division …
Brock led the National League in stolen bases eight times and finished his career with 3,023 hits.
Brock had been in the hospital for a couple of weeks and the procedure was deemed necessary because of the infection and a diabetic condition. The good news though is Brock is recuperating now and is already taking steps on his road to recovery.
Brock, 76, is recovering in a hospital after having the lower part of his left leg below his knee removed because of the infection.
Brock’s greatest years were spent with the Cardinals, though he’ll also go down in Cubs’ lore as the one who got away.
It just happened so fast.Visits from former Cardinals teammates, including fellow Hall of Famers Red Schoendienst, Bob Gibson and Whitey Herzog, have helped keep Brocks spirits high. In 21 World Series game, Brock hit.
Of course, Rickey Henderson would shatter both the single season stolen base record in 1982 with 130 (though Brock still has the NL record) and the all-time record with 1,406.
Brock spent the majority of his Hall of Fame career with the St. Louis Cardinals. I dare say that Lou Brock can be called safe at second.
Best wishes to Lou Brock for a speedy recovery.
