Carlos Correa, Kris Bryant win Rookie of the Year awards
“I think the only expectations that really matter are the ones you put on yourself. And I certainly exceeded my expectations this year”.
Correa finished higher than any AL rookie in slugging, and OPS.
Seeking their first championship since 1908, the Cubs were swept by the NY Mets in the NLCS. While he was the first-and clearly the best-other rookies arriving in Chicago took a few of the pressure off Bryant as they were able to feed off each other over the course of the season.
Correa, who received the award over Cleveland Indians’ shortstop Francisco Lindor and Minnesota Twins’ designated hitter Miguel Sano, led all American League rookies with 22 home runs while also notching 68 RBI.
All three top vote-getters on the N.L. ballot played third base, with Bryant and Duffy followed by the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Jung Ho Kang, who is listed as an infielder because he also played quite a bit at shortstop. He hit. 279 with a. 345 on-base percentage, 22 home runs, 22 doubles and 14 stolen bases while batting third in the Astros’ order and playing a key role in their run to the wild card. 313 with an on-base percentage of.353, 12 home runs, 22 doubles, 50 runs scored and 12 stolen bases.
Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs hits an RBI double against the Atlanta Braves during the sixth inning on August 21, 2015 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.
Correa had a stellar season as well.
Correa’s 2014 season with Class A Lancaster was cut short in June because of a broken right ankle.
Correa received 17 of 30 first-place votes (124 points) to become the second Astros player to win rookie honours, joining Jeff Bagwell (1991). Bryant was expected to be the runaway victor in the NL, and he was.
Houston gave Correa his debut after making sure he won’t be eligible for arbitration until following the 2018 season.
The Major League Baseball season is officially over, but the awards are starting to trickle in.
