Carneiro axe ‘unjust’ – Premier League doctors
“I was unhappy with my medical staff. They were impulsive and naive, ” Mourinho said after the game.
Mourinho was furious at Ms Carneiro’s decision to enter the field and treat Hazard, and vented his anger at her as she returned to his technical area.
Brukner, who was appointed at Anfield in 2010 by Christian Purslow and left in April 2012 as an early casualty of the shake-up by new owners Fenway Sports Group, is now the Australia cricket team doctor.
One of the latest authority figures to have his say on the matter is Liverpool’s former head of sports science, Peter Brukner, who can be seen in the picture above conducting Joe Cole’s medical at Melwood back in 2010.
Oliver then calls on Chelsea’s medical staff and when they do not respond at first, he nods to give them permission to come on at the player’s request.
Not because of Thibaut Courtois’s red card, not because his team lacked any energy until they were down to 10, but because the team’s doctor Eva Carneiro had the audacity to do her job – treating an injured player.
“I thought it was appalling behaviour by the manager”, Brukner told talkSPORT radio.
“At that moment the player becomes a patient of the medical team and it is the duty and obligation of club medical staff to attend to that patient accordingly and without prejudice to the interests of anyone else including the club employing them”.
Rogers quit his role at Chelsea FC in 2011 after the appointment of Paco Biosca as the Chelsea FC medical director, having played a key role in the backroom staff under managers Carlo Ancelotti and Andre Villas-Boas.
“I would like to thank the general public for their overwhelming support”, Carneiro wrote on her verified Facebook account.
“There is a moral and ethical duty of care and it is not in their professional code to act in anything but the health and safety of the player”.
Carneiro now looks set to lose her place on the Chelsea bench for Sunday’s Premier League match against Manchester City. ‘Really very much appreciated’.
The club has declined to comment on the actions of Mourinho, stating only that it would not “comment on internal staffing matters”.
Carneiro and Fearn will no longer be on the bench on matchdays or at the team hotel, plus Carneiro will not attend training sessions at their Cobham base but still have her office at Chelsea’s training facility.
