Carol Burnett accepts Life Achievement honors at SAG Awards
Iconic American actress, singer, producer and writer Carol Burnett took to the red carpet at the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards in a bright emerald green blazer and matching floor-length skirt designed by Bob Mackie-complete with gray Ugg slippers-as she prepared to accept the SAG’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Burnett, 82, is the 52nd recipient of the award, which honors individuals who exhibit “the finest ideals of the acting profession”, the actors’ union has said, both in terms of career and humanitarian efforts.
And then she gave her traditional tug-of-her ear farewell. She is best known for her long-running self-titled TV variety show, which ran 11 seasons and 278 episodes on CBS from 1967 to 1978, drawing an average of 30 million viewers a week. After an wonderful introduction from Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Carol said she was once told comedy was a ‘man’s game.’ Looks like she proved those haters wrong!
“I do think there are some great female comics: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph”.
They even called out Leo..
This little piece of history was a welcome reminder of just how monumental Burnett’s breakthrough as a comedian was, and how lucky we all are that she didn’t take no for an answer. “Comedic actors have to do all of the same things dramatic actors do, but faster, and often with a chimp”. “The point is, carol is better than all of us. we’re goign to give her a prize for it. And that implanted in our brains and made us dream of a life where we could make comedy with our friends but also be their boss”. “And the other 10% is carol“.
Her most memorable roles also include the wicked orphanage owner Miss Hannigan in the 1982 movie musical Annie, the frazzled mother of Helen Hunt’s character on Mad About You, and the matriarch on the 1986 soap spoof miniseries Fresno. She’s recently appeared on Hawaii Five-0, Hot in Cleveland, Glee and All My Children.
Carol Burnett knew that the 2016 SAG Awards was going to be her big night, but she didn’t want the fact that she was being honored to stop her from being comfy.
