Carphone Warehouse Cyber Attack Hits 2.4 Million Customers
Although credit card data was encrypted, card details of 90,000 customers “may have also been accessed”, Carphone Warehouse has admitted.
He also said that the affected customers are being informed and the company is putting additional security measures in place.
The firm has since taken action to secure these systems and has launched an investigation with a cyber security firm to determine what data was affected by the attack.

On Saturday, the UK-based mobile device retail giant released a statement indicating that both its websites and Internet services were penetrated by hackers in a “sophisticated cyberattack” discovered last Wednesday.

Parent company of Carphone Warehouse, Dixons Carphone, has confirmed that no information from Currys, PCWorld, and Dixons Travel have been acquired in the breach.
Tony Neate, chief executive of Government-backed web security initiative Get Safe Online, said: “There will always be more cyber criminals looking to exploit the situation and trick you into sharing information a legitimate company would never ask for”. The retailer also vows to close the security hole that hackers were able to infiltrate and further shore up its defenses against future attacks. Those affected have apparently been contacted by email.
