Carrie Underwood’s Baby Isaiah Inspired ‘Storyteller’ Album, Admits She Has
The project will be Underwood’s first since December 2014’s Greatest Hits: Decade #1 and her first album of completely new material since 2012’s Blown Away.
The singer reveals she and her husband, ice hockey player Mike Fisher, had three names on their shortlist as they prepared to become first-time parents, but they crossed off Christian as the hype surrounding the film adaptation of E.L. James’ book reached fever pitch ahead of its February release.
Carrie, who gave birth to Isaiah in February, is now learning to balance her work and home responsibilities as she promotes her new album, “Storyteller“, but she recently admitted she is constantly battling “mommy guilt”.
“I still haven’t figured out how to talk to the audience”, she said.
“I can sing about things I would never do or things that are kind of wild or illegal or something”. And, Jesus-take-the-wheel, “Mexico” is worse, as she worries, “If they get the cuffs on us, it’s 25-to-life”, before telling her partner in crime to “look for the golden sombrero”. And I was like, ‘Eh, no.’ I do not want to write an album of mushy baby songs. “I’m doing the best that I can”. “Or mummy songs. That is not me”. “But I guess that is a huge fear until you are actually holding your child in your arms and you’re like, ‘Wow, I just met you yesterday, but I would do anything for you.’ I feel like we learned, at the end of the day, we aren’t going to break him”.
“There’s definitely a few twang on the album”, Underwood said.
The video, sponsored by Target, features Underwood and her band giving an acoustic live performance of the sentimental ballad, a tribute to the quieter moments in a relationship.
Instead she aimed for more subtle but still distinctive singing. “It’s like playing a role”, she says. “I still have the same voice and I still like the same music I liked before”, she confirmed. “She sounds more confident to me”.
