Carrier says it has deal with Trump to keep jobs in Ind.
Mr Trump has vowed to keep companies like Carrier from moving jobs overseas.
“Big day on Thursday for IN and the great workers of that wonderful state.We will keep our companies and jobs IN the U.S. Thanks Carrier”, Trump said on Twitter. Before President-Elect Donald Trump was expected to travel to IN on Thursday to announce that a deal had been reached, Carrier confirmed the agreement.
Almost nine months after announcing it would relocate its Indianapolis operations to Mexico, Carrier has reached an agreement with the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump to keep almost 1,000 jobs in the city.
February 10: Company officials announce plans to shutter the Indianapolis factory, along with a 700-worker factory in the northeastern in city of Huntington that is also owned by Carrier parent company United Technologies Corp. of Hartford, Connecticut. The Lincoln production could also be discontinued at the Louisville plant, replaced with production of the vehicle that Ford had wanted to build, the Ford Escape.
“Here’s what’s going to happen”, Trump told a crowd in Indianapolis in April. It appears that Pence, governor of IN, worked with local officials to provide tax benefits or other sweeteners.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for those Hoosiers who’ll keep their jobs.
Carrier released a statement applauding the Trump administration’s support for the business community, stating that it would preserve some jobs by continuing to manufacture gas furnaces in Indianapolis.
“The president can try his absolute ability to persuade companies to do what he would like”, short of threatening to jail or strip property from executives who refuse, McGinnis told Business Insider.
President-elect Donald Trump has found partial success in his promise to keep the air conditioning manufacturer Carrier from moving jobs from in to Mexico. Despite calling Trump a phony and fraud during the campaign Romney is now praising Trump for his victory in the election and his “message of inclusion”.

Also, his deal is being received favorably by the unions in IN, once the Democrats’ strongest ally.
Meanwhile, Trump is already making good on a campaign promise to keep jobs in America.
Chuck Jones, president of United Steelworkers Local 1999, which represents Carrier workers, said of Tuesday’s news: “I’m optimistic, but I don’t know what the situation is”.
Carrier had said it would lay off 1,400 workers and move to Mexico.
“The New York Times and CNBC are reporting and Carrier Corp. has tweeted that a deal has been reached to keep some of the west-side plant’s jobs in Indianapolis”. They replied by email and said they had no comment on the issue and said this was between Carrier and President-elect Trump. But in securing a deal with Carrier, Trump is lending credibility to his claims that he’d put people he’d called “killers” – meant as a compliment – to help American workers. No mention is made of the 700-worker factory in Huntington.
