Cars fall through ice at Lake Geneva Winterfest
Luckily no one was harmed when the cars began to sink, but attempts to tow three stuck cars out of the ice went on into Saturday night.
However, parking is allowed on the ice at the boat access point to the lake for ice fishing.
A woman from Woodstock, Illinois, told TMJ 4 that she saw a whole row of cars down in front of the water and by the time she ran to her vehicle “there was at least two rows of cars down in the water”.
Officials said no people were inside the sunken cars.
There is no word on the extent of damage to the vehicles.
FOX 6 in Wisconsin reports the Geneva Fire Department responded to the incident, which occurred at Winterfest-an annual event at Lake Geneva.
Drone footage taken during recovery operations shows 15 or 16 vehicles partially submerged, with another eight appearing to be entirely on top of the ice.
Local police and firefighters worked with towing companies to hook vehicles up and pull them to land.
