Carson City Deputy Shot, Killed in the Line of Duty
According to the Associated Press, police officers responded to a report of domestic battery and an injured woman.
A Carson City Sheriff’s deputy was killed early this morning after violent domestic battery call escalated when the suspect came out shooting. When deputies arrived, a man walked out of the house and opened fire.
Three children, between the ages eight to 13, and one adult were subsequently evacuated from the residence in Carson City, Nevada, about 30 miles south of Reno.
Furlong says the shooter was found dead on scene.
The Carson City Sheriff’s has handed over the investigation of this incident to the Reno Police Department. Broadway says there were no other injuries.
News 4 spoke with several neighbors in the area, many say their neighborhood is usually very quiet and this tragedy has shocked the entire community.
Details about the officer and the suspect were not immediately released. KTVN-TV reported that it is unclear at this time how the suspect died.
Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval on Saturday issued a statement about the Carson City deputy sheriff killed in the line of duty.
A candlelight vigil at the Peace Officer Memorial on the capitol grounds has been scheduled for 8 p.m.
