Carson Palmer helps Arizona Cardinals blow away Detroit Lions
Palmer was almost ideal, finishing with as many incompletions as touchdowns.
By the time Stafford threw his third interception, Lions head coach Jim Caldwell had enough of what he saw and benched the former No. 1 overall pick. If a new general manager is eventually brought into the fold, his view of Stafford and where to go at the game’s most important position could be drastically different than Mayhew’s. Detroit was another team that was supposed to be contenders. Over the last three seasons, these two clubs have met once in each of the aforementioned years – and things have not went well for Detroit.
– Just call him Mr. Touchdown.
Andy Dalton led Cincinnati 86 yards in seven plays after the opening kickoff, hitting an uncovered Tyler Eifert for an 11-yard touchdown pass. Stafford finished the day 20-of-32 for 188 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.
Detroit has a few work to do defensively in this one. His second catch, a 26-yard grab, moved him past Art Monk for 17th place on the NFL’s all-time receptions list. He continues to show a great rapport with John Brown and Larry Fitzgerald, as the wideout duo combined to catch 9-of-11 targets for 128 yards and two touchdowns. He has 12 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown.
The Lions remain the NFL’s only winless team this season, and another defeat today would plunge them to new depths.
Critical moment: Trailing 14-7 in the second quarter and having Arizona pinned on their own 1-yard line, the Lions defense couldn’t come up with another big stop.
That is, until Sunday’s 42-17 loss to the Cardinals. The Lions are still without a win this season so far, where as the Cardinals suffered their first loss last week to come into Week 5 on 3-1. He helped the Cardinals average an NFL-high 37 points entering the game, and they surpassed that with a mixture of plays. Matthew Stafford completed 24 of 35 passes for 203 yards. Redding was the player offsides. Next play thought David Johnson ran in from four yards out. Arizona Cardinals appears to be that veteran team which won’t quit and still manages to put up massive number of points no matter how old the stars are.
– Tyrann Mathieu missed two snaps and was replaced by Chris Clemons after landing on his shoulder in the first quarter.
Matt Snyder (3-1) – The potential return of DeAndre Levy would boost the defense, but it’s been the (lack of) offense that’s caused most of the Lions’ problems. His final passer rating was 66.9.
– The Cardinals improved to 19-4 against non-division opponents and 4-0 against the NFC North under Arians.
Here’s a quick look at the inactive Arizona: LB Sean Weatherspoon, WR/PR J.J. Nelson, OL Ted Larsen, LB Shaq Riddick, OT D.J. Humphries and NT Xavier Williams. And the offensive line.
The Patriots collected a 30-6 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, who lost their third consecutive game without injured QB Tony Romo. The last three games (2012,2013, 2014) have occurred at the University of Phoenix Stadium.
