Carson Palmer won’t play in the Pro Bowl because of finger
After the Panthers beat the Cardinals, 49-15, on Sunday to advance to their second Super Bowl in franchise history, let it be known that they won’t be able to call themselves “disrespected” anymore.
Davis underwent surgery on Tuesday and Rivera said he may need to wear a brace on his arm when the top-seeded Panthers play the Denver Broncos in the National Football League championship game on February 7 in Santa Clara, California.
It will be Newton’s first trip to the Super Bowl and the second for the Panthers (17-1), who lost to New England 12 years ago. The team featuring the player most likely to win MVP, the team with six All-Pros, the team that was 21-2 over their last 23 games headed into the NFC championship against the Arizona Cardinals.
The Carolina defense forced seven turnovers, and star quarterback Cam Newton found the end zone four times to cruise to a victory.
He’s taking the Carolina Panthers with him.
“For everyone who wears the blue and black, it has been a long time coming”, Newton said after another virtuoso performance Sunday with two touchdown passes and another two TD leaps – minus the Superman cape -in a 49-15 destruction of the Arizona Cardinals for the NFC championship. The Cardinals turned the ball over seven times.
Cam Newton – entertainer, icon… and Super Bowl quarterback.
So now it’s on to the Bay Area to face Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos (14-4) in Super Bowl 50. “We came out here and fought our tails off, and we did what a lot of people said we couldn’t do”.
Wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. caught a touchdown and saved another one by running down cornerback Patrick Peterson on Newton’s lone mistake – a second-quarter pass that he floated over tight end Ed Dickson and into Peterson’s arms.
Palmer, pressured continually by the Carolina pass rush, threw four interceptions and fumbled twice to provide the Panthers with six turnovers.
There was safety Tre Boston, who replaced Harper, collecting Carolina’s fourth interception.
On Arizona’s first play after a Peterson muffed punt, Palmer was sacked by Charles Johnson and fumbled.
“We’re not going just to take pictures”, Newton said.
When asked what makes him believe he can play with a broken arm, Davis replied, “I believe in me”.
