Carson threatens to run without GOP

Carson on Friday floated the idea that he might leave the Republican Party should elites “subvert the will of the voters” and select an establishment candidate over voters’ preferences.
It’s the first time Carson has suggested the possibility of bucking the GOP – though he has previously stood with Trump in pressuring the party to meet demands, including on debate structure.
“I have no intention of running as an Independent, but I certainly don’t want to be part of corruption”, Carson said.
“So whatever it’s that makes that more likely to occur, I am for it. I don’t know if it is a brokered convention or not”, Chabot told The Hill.
The Washington Post reported Thursday that 20 Republican party stalwarts discussed the possibility of brokering the convention at a Washington dinner held by Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus.
At least one attendee at the private dinner, which is a regular gathering of leading Republicans in Washington, told The Associated Press that suggestions of manipulation by party leaders were dramatically exaggerated. I intend on being the nominee.
“Think about how a Republican candidate would campaign”, Stone said.
There’s always room for improvement in the convention process. But with a deep bench of GOP candidates, some party leaders are reportedly preparing for such a scenario.

It would be a shock to see anything less than the now-familiar and mundane gathering to choose a candidate, through the accumulation of delegates in state primaries and caucuses. Candidates then seek to gain enough delegates from other candidates to win the nomination.
