Casey Kasem’s Widow Named in Wrongful Death Lawsuit
Casey Kasem’s brother and three of his children have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the late radio DJ’s widow, Jean Kasem, The Associated Press reports.
Kasem died in June of 2014 after suffering from dementia and reportedly developing a bedsore shortly before his death.
It stated that months before the death of Casey Kasem, his wife left him in different hospitals for days, again and again, despite knowing that Casey was all set to be discharged. “On Decemeber 30, 2013, after languishing in the hospital due to Jean’s failure to pick him up, Casey began suffering sepsis and shock and was moved to the intensive care unit, where he stayed until January 3, 2014”.
The suit came after prosecutors declined to charge Jean with elder abuse earlier this year.
Casey and Jean were married from 1980 until his death.
The lawsuit also details numerous confrontations about Kasem’s care, and it states Jean Kasem transported his body to Norway where it was buried in an unmarked grave.
Kasem was known as host of the American Top 40 radio show and as the voice of Shaggy in the TV animation Scooby Doo.
Casey Kasem’s legacy reached well beyond music.
“What she did to my father is reprehensible”, Kerri tells ABC News. We don’t care about the money.
The children, who were born during Kasem’s first marriage, to Linda Myers, and Kasem’s brother, Mouner Kasem, are seeking $250,000 in damages for elder abuse, the maximum allowed by law.
T. Michael Soroy, Jean Kasem’s lawyer, didn’t instantly reply to a phone name and e mail in search of remark.
Kerri Kasem said, “We would rather see her in jail than receive one dime”. We care about justice. The lawsuit follows years of legal wrangling between Jean Kasem and three of his adult children from a previous marriage.
The charge evaluation sheet says police investigators found Jean Kasem wanted to get her husband away from media scrutiny.
“People are going through this across the country every single day”, Kerri Kasem said.
