Catherine Coulson Dead – Twin Peaks’ Log Lady Passes Away at 71
Catherine E. Coulson, the actress who played Margaret Lanterman, more commonly referred to as “The Log Lady”, on David Lynch’s TV masterpiece Twin Peaks, has passed away, Coulson’s agent confirmed to VICE on Monday evening. “My log saw something that night”, she says. The station told Mashablocle it had not yet aired its report and a representative for Coulson could not be immediately reached. Behind the camera, she worked as an assistant director on Eraserhead with Lynch, also working the assistant camera on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Modern Romance, Youngblood and more. Between that role, and the new Twin Peaks series, she had made a few notable TV appearances, often with some kind of plant in her character’s name.
Coulson was set to return to Twin Peaks in Lynch’s third season, due to hit our screens in 2017.
It was during that film they came up with the idea that would eventually become the iconic Twin Peaks character, The Log Lady.
Since news of Coulson’s passing broke, there has been a massive fan outpouring on Twitter. She was also previously married to Eraserhead star Jack Nance, though the couple split in 1976. The show – and the weird, wonderful world she helped to create – will not be the same without her.
“Today I lost one of my dearest friends, Catherine Coulson”, he said. She was always there for her friends.
The Ashland-born actress was famous for her role in David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” as well as dramatic work at Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
“She had a great sense of humor – she loved to laugh and make people laugh”, Lynch said. “She was the Log Lady”.
