“The decision of the committee is disappointing to us, tomorrow we are challenging it in the Supreme Court.The Supervisory committee’s decision is another blow to the state”, Home Minister G Parameshwara told reporters here.
Shekhar said he took the decision keeping in mind various factors such as need for drinking and irrigation water in Karnataka and summer crop in Tamil Nadu.
The panel’s order comes into force after the state would complete releasing 12,000 cusecs daily on Tuesday as per the apex court’s September 12 order, which is a modification of its September 5 directive to release 15,000 cusecs daily for 10 days from September 7. “She also threatened the KPN staff of setting them ablaze after drenching them with diesel”, a senior police official said. A Young woman suspected of instigating the arson was arrested last week in Bengaluru, Karnataka during protests against sharing water with the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu.
“Therefore, it has been decided that the Central Water Commission will draw a new protocol for the online collection of data related to rainfall and flow of water on real-time basis which may be shared simultaneously with all the states concerned”, he added.
The CSC had also made a decision to set up a network for data collection, which will send real-time online data to the four states involved – Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Puducherry and Kerala.
The committee had met on September 12 to resolve the issue, but failed to arrive at a consensus, asking for more information about the crisis from the states.
At the meeting, while Karnataka “vehemently” opposed release of any water, Tamil Nadu requested for release of water as ordered by the Cauvery water dispute tribunal. The next meeting will be held in sometimes in October.
