Cavaliers’ JR Smith Declines Player Option
Smith signed a two-year, $10.3 million extension last year after being traded to the Cavs the previous winter. For his part, Smith showed that off, and then some, when he fired up a long three-pointer – one that caught nothing but air – on Cleveland’s very first possession.
The option is worth close to $2.2 million next season, and Williams has made his intentions clear to the Cavaliers, the report said. “The fans love me; I love them and my teammates”.
His perimeter defense has also vastly improved this season.
How bad are things for Kevin Love, the former leader of the Minnesota Timberwolves who decided that he needed to get out of Minneapolis?
J.R. Smith will decline to renew a player option with the Cleveland Cavaliers at the deadline Thursday and become an unrestricted free agent.
In related news, Golden State’s Draymond Green will be reactivated tonight after being suspended for a ball-handling infraction with LeBron James. In this year’s playoffs, Smith is averaging 11.4 points and shooting 44 percent from 3-point range.
