Cavaliers Not Taking Trade Offers For Kevin Love
A report by ESPN’s Kevin Pelton says that there is one trade that may actually rock the foundation of two of the better teams in the National Basketball Association.
According to Fear The Sword, the Cleveland Cavaliers actually discussed trading Kevin Love last season (prior to signing a long-term contract with the Cavs) to the Phoenix Suns, as claimed by Ethan Skolnick, a writer for Bleacher Report and now with the Miami Herald. At that time, Kevin Love could become a free agent and with no assurance that he would stay in Cleveland (despite any “gentleman’s agreement” when he was traded), Markieff Morris did not have his felony case and off-court issues.
“We’ve never once put together an offer involving Kevin, nor have we taken a call on an offer for Kevin”, he added. As of January 15, he was eligible for a trade, fueling speculation that the Cavs might have something brewing.
Love got off to a strong start this season, putting himself in the running for a possible All-Star trip, but the return of Kyrie Irving has once again made Love appear uncomfortable in the offense.
The Cavaliers recently fired coach David Blatt despite starting the season with an Eastern Conference-best 30-11 record.
“We think very highly of Kevin and we believe Kevin thinks very highly of this situation”, Griffin said. “You’re either all the way in or all the way out in this process and we believe our guys are all the way in”.
Kevin Love being able to shoot from the outside makes him an interesting pairing with Joel Embiid, the injured center that has yet to play a single game for the Philadelphia 76ers, and Nerlens Noel, a talented defensive big man who struggles to play with a center that likes to score in the low post.
“With our young stars, with Kyrie and Kevin, they’re young, so it’s still about their brand and different things, it’s just way different”, Lue said.
