Cavaliers re-sign veteran James Jones
I mean, would you leave LeBron James?
With Cleveland general manager David Griffin presumably preoccupied with contract negotiations for forward Tristan Thompson, there is buzz that a couple Western Conference teams may attempt to swoop in and sign Delly: the Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers. He is owed $10.5 million for the campaign but that money is guaranteed if he’s released before August 1, which the Cavaliers, or any team that acquires him will do. Jones kept his word, as he said he would be back in Cleveland “for sure” just last week. The signing is not yet official, but it could be very soon.
The latest Cavs trade rumors suggest Cleveland could move veteran forward Mike Miller in the same deal that sends Brendan Haywood to another team in return for what’s expected to be a trade exception.
The Cavs now have 11 players under contract for the 2015-2016 season.
Jones had some good games for the Cavs in 2014-15 – his 17-point performance in a Game 2 win over the Chicago Bulls in the playoffs perhaps the best of them – but he struggled to find his way in his first season in Cleveland.
He also appeared in 20 postseason games, averaging 4.4 points in 15.6 minutes. Known for his shooting prowess, Jones shot 36 percent from the three-point range last season and holds a career mark of 39 percent from distance, which is 12th highest among active National Basteball Association players.
