Cavaliers roll to eighth straight win
James boasted 37 points, five assists and 12 rebounds, but was held scoreless over the final 3:15 of the second overtime as the Cavs’ eight-game winning streak was snapped. The host Bucks beat the Cavaliers 108-105 in double overtime.
The Cavs fell behind by six points at halftime and needed to erase a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime.
Milwaukee had a chance to win at the buzzer but reserve guard Jerryd Bayless’ jumper was short, and the teams moved to overtime.
This will be the Bucks first divisional game this season and the second for the Cavaliers after defeating the Indiana Pacers and losing their season opener against the Chicago Bulls. Shooting 55.9% and scoring 18 points per game has given the Bucks an offensive threat down low that they didn’t have past year. He tied the game at 94-94 on a drive through the lane for an easy dunk with 16.5 seconds left.
The Cleveland Cavaliers had a pair of four-minute scoring droughts, but they picked the flawless time for a defensive stand against the NY Knicks. James would make one of two free throws off the Antetokounmpo foul to cut the Milwaukee lead down to one at 101-100, but Cleveland would get no closer.
While Carmelo Anthony slowly disappeared in the second half, LeBron James kept getting stronger and stronger and eventually dominated the fourth quarter like he has so many times in the past against the Knicks. The Cavaliers won the first game 96-86.
Lamb missed a three-pointer with 27 seconds left that would have tied it at 100.
Anthony scored 26 points and Porzingis added 11 points on 11 shots.
The Cavs were playing on the second night of a back-to-back, rarely subbed during the overtime sessions and seemed to run out of gas at the end.
But when they got that stop on a block from James, multiple personnel including Mo Williams, Kevin Love, assistant coaches Jim Boylan and Larry Drew and trainer Steve Spiro appeared to spring off the bench and run toward the court signaling timeout. The Cavs made just 18 of 31 free throws but Williams hit four straight in the closing seconds. The only other starter to score in double figures was Smith who scored ten. NY whittled away an early nine-point Cleveland lead, moving ahead 36-35 on a 3-pointer from Anthony with 6:33 left in the second.
The Eastern Conference is well represented in this battle as the NY Knicks welcome the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Madison Square Garden in this National Basketball Association match-up.
They’ve struggled for much of the season in clutch situations, defined as five minutes or less remaining in the game and the score within five points.
SAN ANTONIO – LaMarcus Aldridge had 17 points and 19 rebounds as San Antonio prevailed against winless Philadelphia.
Bucks expected starting lineup: Carter-Williams, Middleton, Antetokounmpo, Parker and Greg Monroe. Greivis Vasquez finished with 13. They grew the lead out to an 8-2 count when James caught a one-handed pass from Williams underneath the hoop and got the layup to fall in traffic. The Bucks visit Quicken Loans Arena this coming Thursday night. Up next, Cleveland has a road game in Detroit against the Pistons on Tuesday.
