Cavs coach Tyronn Lue agrees to 5-year, $35 million extension
According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo!
Tyronn Lue is staying in Cleveland. Lue became the first coach to win his first 10 career postseason games when the Cavs beat Toronto in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Lue and the Cavaliers finished last season with a 57-25 regular season record as the team improved by four wins from the year before.
Lue took over as Cavaliers head coach on January 22nd after the Cavs fired then-coach David Blatt.
In addition to being the fourth-youngest coach in National Basketball Association history to win a championship, Lue became just the sixth African-American coach to win it all. But a contract agreement with Lue and the (official) re-signing of LeBron James (who has already made it known that he’s not going anywhere) were two outstanding matters that had to be addressed.
Only Gregg Popovich (San Antonio Spurs) and Doc Rivers (Los Angeles Clippers) will be earning more moving forward. Larry Drew had a team option for the 2016-17 season that was picked up; and Mike Longabardi inked a multiyear deal when he was acquired mid-season.
