Cavs Dealt Another Loss; Iman Shumpert To Miss 3-4 Months
Doctors will perform surgery Wednesday to fix a ruptured Extensor Carpi Ulnaris sheath in his right wrist. Shumpert reportedly sustained the injury by hitting his wrist on the rim while trying to catch a lob pass from a teammate, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Shumpert played in 38 regular-season games with Cleveland past year, averaging 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting just under 34 percent from three in a tick over 24 minutes per game.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have opened up training camp, but Tristan Thompson has not yet signed a contract and LeBron James is hoping a deal gets done soon.
The team added depth in Mo Williams and still has Matthew Dellavedova and Joe Harris along with expected starter (with Shump out) J.R. Smith.
As tough as it was for me to type the name of that injury, it’s even tougher news for Shumpert, who’s been snakebitten by injuries throughout his career.
With Shumpert out for three months and Irving and Love not ready to compete for a while yet, the early stages of the 2015-16 season are going to be an uphill battle for the Cavaliers. It is unclear when the injury happened, but it appears Shumpert underwent an MRI on Tuesday to diagnose the issue.
While Shumpert isn’t primarily an offensive threat, he is one of Cleveland’s best defensive players, with the versatility to guard several positions.
