Cavs forward Kyle Korver out again with foot injury
Not only did they trail the San Antonio Spurs by 30 midway through the fourth quarter Monday night, in a game that will drop them to No. 2 in the Eastern Conference standings with a loss, but LeBron James may have suffered a concerning back/neck injury.
Pau Gasol continued to be great off of the bench for SA while LaMarcus Aldridge was solid in his time on the floor.
Cleveland’s LeBron James suffered a blow to the back of his neck in the final minute of the third quarter after a collision under the basket with the Spurs’ David Lee.
With assistance from teammates, James immediately walked to the bench but later left for the locker room early in the fourth quarter, never to return.
Cleveland has been out of sync recently, losing three of five, and those struggles only got worse against San Antonio. This one was uglier than most, a 103-74 loss to the San Antonio Spurs that was over by halftime and may have qualified as the worst possible National Basketball Association finals preview in the modern era.
The Spurs, still two-and-a-half games behind the Golden State Warriors (59-14), will have a last-dash opportunity this week to claim the No. 1 seed before the end of the regular season. Granted, LeBron James and Kevin Love did not play during their last meeting on February 25, but their 3-0 record against Cleveland can not be ignored.
Westbrook scored 37 points and had 13 rebounds and 10 assists.
It wasn’t really the result of LeBron James, who by far had the best plus-minus (minus-13) of Cleveland’s starting five while dropping 17 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.
Cleveland fell half a game behind the Boston Celtics for the top seed in the east following Monday’s 103-74 rout against the Spurs in San Antonio.
Cavaliers: Cleveland completed its schedule against the West, finishing 16-14. Murray (left groin) will miss his ninth consecutive game Monday night. “We did a good job tonight coming out early being aggressive keeping our foot on the pedal, hopefully we can keep this carrying over to the next game”.
Korver, Shumpert Out: Kyle Korver missed the game against the Spurs and will miss the next two games with knee soreness.
James and Kyrie Irving each had 29 points for the Cavs, who won last year’s National Basketball Association championship and have made the Finals each of the past three seasons. He averaged a league-best 33.3 points in three games last week.
Spurs: San Antonio is holding opponents under 100 points per game for the 22nd straight season.
He needs four more triple-doubles to tie Oscar Robertson’s single-season record of 41 set in 1961-62. “Games that they would normally try to get those guys some rest or whatever, it just hasn’t been happening”.
Cleveland has failed to cover the spread in six of seven games (going 3-4 straight up) heading into Thursday’s road matchup with the Chicago Bulls. After hosting the Cavs, the Spurs stay at home to face the Warriors on Wednesday before a weekend showdown against the Utah Jazz.
