Cavs GM called LeBron; Sixers in L.A. to meet his agent
National Basketball Association free agency kicks off Sunday, and all eyes will be focused on LeBron James.
Will LeBron James “Defend the Land” for another season? Hoops Hype described some of the issues Los Angeles needs to address if James signs with the team. James came back four years ago to a hero’s welcome, something that seemed unimaginable when he left in disgrace four years earlier for Miami.
CLEVELAND The Philadelphia 76ers are getting a chance to pitch their process to LeBron James.
LeBron ushered in the 2018 free agent period with a courtesy call to Cavalier’s general manager Koby Altman, sources told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
Paul also represents young Sixers star Ben Simmons.
James, a three-time NBA champion, has played in the NBA Finals eight consecutive years but the Cavs were swept this season by the Golden State Warriors.
LeBron resides in LA during the offseason, and has done for many a year now, but with the Lakers being his most likely destination in free agency, every detail of his life pertaining to the Los Angeles area is being analysed in microscopic detail. As their pursuit of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George continues, the Lakers are doing everything in their power to return to greatness. James’ shooting percentage from three-point range was the third-best single-season mark of his career. The Lakers aren’t almost as an attractive destination without either Leonard or Paul George, who is expected to sign with either L.A. or the Oklahoma City Thunder as a free agent.
For the Boston Celtics, James’ exit from the Eastern Conference further cements their status as a team with potential to advance to the NBA Finals. As the official opening of free agency draws closer there’s a strong sense that James is leaning toward the Lakers.
The 76ers recently parted ways with general manager Bryan Colangelo and their basketball operations are now being overseen by coach Brett Brown. The Cavs can also offer him the most lucrative package, a five-year, $282 million contract. However, if he stays with the Cavaliers, others may say James is content as a second place finisher. In Los Angeles, championships are the standard and he’ll feel new pressure in upholding the legacies of Johnson, Bryant, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jerry West and other Lakers greats.
