Cavs’ Iman Shumpert Out 3 Months With Wrist Injury
Injuries were a big part of the story of how the Cleveland Cavaliers ended last season, and they appear to be a big part of the start of this season. Yet, he can’t rack up a triple double and play 45 minutes every night.
The Cleveland Cavaliers will be without guard Iman Shumpert for 12 to 14 weeks after he sustained a wrist injury.
While this obviously hurts the Cavaliers, it’s even more devastating for Shumpert himself.
Shumpert’s injury is an early blow to the Cavs, who made the finals despite losing Love to a dislocated shoulder in the first round against Boston and Irving fracturing his kneecap in Game 1 of the Finals against Golden State. Especially as this latest setback seems to have been picked up either during recent offseason workouts or while training with his teammates.
Assuming that Shumpert will be out until January or Christmas, the Cavs will have to get through a good portion of the season by playing J.R. Smith as their starting two-guard, with Joe Harris as their backup.
Shumpert’s presence in Cleveland has been even better than many might think.
Cleveland is already working several key players back from surgery, including Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, so this is an unfortunate setback for the team expected to once again come out of the Eastern Conference. Shumpert isn’t the greatest offensive player on the Cavs, but he is an important wing defender.
