Cavs looking to sign Derrick Rose
Rose’s status: He has met with several teams in the past three weeks, including the Clippers and Bucks. The two sides are expected to meet face to face in the coming days.
Rose is closing-in on finding his next National Basketball Association home after wrapping up the final year of his contract in NY with the Knicks. Sure, his injuries have played a part in that, but his singular, isolation style doesn’t mesh well in an offence that hopes to achieve ball movement.
Derrick Rose remains one of the most polarizing free agents available, but that might not be for much longer.
As for Rose, joining the Cavaliers would be the flawless opportunity to change the narrative on his plummeting basketball career and compete for a championship at the same time.
Rose was the NBA MVP in the 2010-2011 season. However, when on the court, Rose can compete with the league’s best.
Rose missed the entire 2012-2013 season recovering from knee surgery.
However, many reports stated that the Chicago Bulls were also in play. Future maximum contracts seemed inevitable. However, significant knee injuries have taken away his explosiveness.
Rose, 28, averaged 18 points and 4.4 assists in 64 games for the New York Knicks before suffering a season-ending meniscus tear a year ago, another knee issue in a career limited by knee injuries. He played 64 games, starting all of them. Cleveland signed one-time Knick Jose Calderon for point guard depth, but he likely would be a third option.
The Cavs already have four-time All-Star Kyrie Irving at point guard. And he’ll turn only 29 in training camp. Honestly, this is arguably the best trade that the Chicago Bulls have made in recent years. “I’ll be back before the season starts for sure”.
The Cavaliers have had a rather lackluster free agency period.
Nobody should feel sorry for Rose, who still has a lifetime contract with Adidas worth upwards of a reported $200 million. The Cavaliers would have to pay about $12 million in taxes on the roughly $2.1 million deal.
