Cavs lose Mozgov for 10-14 days with strained deltoid
CLEVELAND (AP) – Cavaliers starting center Timofey Mozgov could miss two weeks with a strained shoulder.
Williams, who is running Cleveland’s offense while Irving continues to recover from surgery to fix a broken kneecap suffered in the National Basketball Association Finals, will miss Saturday’s game against Atlanta with a sore right ankle.
Mozgov left Thursday’s win against the Milwaukee Bucks with 2:42 left in the second quarter and he did not return. Williams missed the Bucks game, and he also may miss Monday’s game against the Orlando Magic.
For the season, Mozgov is averaging 7.9 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting 51.6 percent from the field in 20.8 minutes per game.
As for Williams, Matthew Dellavedova will likely start in his place.
Mozgov will undergo an MRI on his shoulder Friday, Chris Haynes of The Plain Dealer reports.
“I just go on the bench and sit for a minute, and there was a pain”, Mozgov, who was unsure when the injury occurred, said after the game. He hasn’t looked quite right this season and perhaps the two weeks off will help his knee get healthy even if he’s dealing with another injury.
Mozgov’s injury actually may be a blessing in disguise for the Cavs. Tristan Thompson started the second half at center and finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
