Cavs staggered after historic blowout loss to Warriors
Two emphatic dunks by Tristan Thompson and a finger roll by J.R. Smith effectively sealed victory midway through the fourth quarter, putting the Cavaliers 85-62 ahead. The last few games, we’ve kind of let teams dictate the tempo. Each been monsters for the league’s teams this season.
Before Thursday’s game, Cavs coach David Blatt went on a long rant, complaining about the criticism his team has received since Monday’s loss.
When asked about his own offensive performances, Love said, “I don’t know how to answer that. We’ll learn from it. The best teacher in life is experience”. He chalked it up to a bad night and said the Cavs simply needed to get better. “Whether that’s plays that come in the fourth quarter or executing based on the great players that we have, sometimes we get away with that”.
Curry led his team finishing with 35 points while shooting 12-of-18 from the floor.
The 31-year-old power forward said the Warriors had handed the Cavaliers “a good old fashioned A-kicking” – but insisted that Cleveland would not over-react to the defeat. Brown is trying to settle the point guard spot and journeyman Donald Sloan is getting the latest chance with the starting unit and averaging nine assists in the last three games. LeBron James was quoted saying he is the “best player in the world” last season during the NBA Finals.
Earlier, Blatt had said he didn’t particularly care for the “hacking” strategy, but he implemented it – and it worked. In that span, Jordan went 2-of-6 from the free throw line, and more importantly, the Cavs pushed their lead from nine to 16. However, that task is going to be one very hard one when you consider their big centre Blake Griffin is missing as he continues to recover from a partially torn tendon in the left quad.
During his pregame news conference, Blatt was defensive about the criticism aimed at his team following Monday night’s blowout loss to the defending National Basketball Association champions. [The Warriors] have got guys who are sharp mentally at all times. “We’re not there yet”, he said. “They were absolutely phenomenal”.
“He’s the best shooter ever to play this game”, said Hoiberg flatly when queried about a former teammate being the best shooter ever, a guy named Reggie Miller. Jarrett Jack tops in assists with 7.4 per game. Golden State demolished Cleveland with pick-and-rolls leaving Love clueless. Kevin Love scored a whopping 3 points last night. He is a four-time All-Star Game MVP and the career leader with 280 points in the game – though James is just two points behind.
Cleveland’s worst-ever home loss was a 114-75 setback against the Chicago Bulls on January 20, 2012.
