Cavs star guard Kyrie Irving will make season debut Sunday
Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving needed just two words to announce his return Saturday – the same two that Michael Jordan used to publicize his second coming in 1995.
Irving posted “I’m back” on his Twitter account Saturday and later said following the team’s practice that he’s excited to play.
Kyrie Irving addressing media and says “I’m pretty F-ing excited”.
For when the team squares off against the Philadelphia 76ers in Cleveland on Sunday afternoon it’ll have star point guard Kyrie Irving back in the fold. “I’ve been ready to play, but biomechanically we just wanted to make sure everything was good so I wouldn’t put myself at risk”.
Irving said he has had to learn patience during his ordeal.
“You wouldn’t wish injury on anybody, just going through those months”, Irving said.
Having Irving healthy and at his best for the playoffs is undoubtedly the most important thing for the Cavaliers aside from LeBron’s status, and it is likely the biggest X-factor in terms of whether they can compete for a championship against the likes of Golden State and the NBA’s other heavy hitters.
He knows that he has to ease himself back into the flow of the game and will do so on a minutes restriction. He won’t take the court looking to make up for lost time.
“It’s not like I’m coming in and just trying to take 15 to 20 shots right after I come off injury”, Irving said.
“The guys continue to give me confidence”. “I’m back and ready to play, so I feel good”.
This season, in 24 games without Irving, the Cavs have carved out a 17-7 record, which places them in first place in the Eastern Conference – one game ahead of the Indiana Pacers.
