CBS parts ways with veteran golf announcer David Feherty
CBS Sports and analyst David Feherty are parting ways after the two sides were unable to reach terms on a new contract. A native of Northern Ireland, Feherty became popular with audiences for his wit and commentary.
The CBS golf schedule came to a close with The Barclays last weekend, and according to John Ourand from SportsBusiness Journal, so too did the long career for David Feherty with the network.
In addition to his television work, Feherty has worked with EA Sports on the Tiger Woods PGA Tour video game series.
Feherty, who joined CBS in 1997 after walking away from professional golf, and CBS could not agree on his role moving forward.
Along with being a member of the European team at the 1991 Ryder Cup, Feherty also collected five European Tour wins and had three top-10 showings in major championships.
Though Feherty’s deal with CBS has ended, he will continue to have a relationship with Golf Channel, which has aired his eponymous talk show since 2011.
The question making the rounds in golf circles is which network will scoop up the services of the lovable commentator. The network that signs the highly regarded announcer will be the stronger for it.
