CBS to Stream Some Regular-Season NFL Games for 1st Time
Fox has streamed more than 100 games, but that has been via TV Everywhere authentication.
As in the past, CBS will stream its playoff games, this year being one Wild Card, two divisional games and the AFC Championship Game.
Inc. would provide a free stream of another game in London, the October. 25 matchup between the Bills and Jaguars. That apart, stream is available through some connected TV devices, as well as, televisions. And viewers can watch on various set top TV devices including Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku and Xbox One. In addition, CBS will stream Super Bowl 50 live from and for the first time, all of the ads will be livestreamed with the Big Game. That kicks off at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time. The second game is played between Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys on November 26. That latter item will also be the first time CBS has broadcast the Thanksgiving Day game through live streaming, which is something of a notable step in terms of making NFL games more broadly accessible to the cord-cutting audience. It began with streaming the Super Bowl, then its playoff games.
“We’re very excited to offer more NFL ON CBS streaming coverage across more digital platforms than ever before”, said Jeffrey Gerttula, Senior Vice President and General Manager of CBS Sports Digital. The company disclosed that its streaming coverage can be available to customers of Verizon Communications Inc. DirecTV (NYSE: T), for example, is now paying almost $1.4 billion a season for the rights to show its NFL Sunday Ticket package.
