CDC Director says funding delay hurts Zika-fighting work

The guidelines were originally published last week but did not garner wider attention among experts until Thursday, following a W.H.O. clarification distinguishing between people who visit Zika-affected countries and those who live in them.

The researchers concluded that the case seemed like sexual Zika transmission from the man to the woman, but they weren’t sure of the route: “We cannot rule out the possibility that transmission occurred not through semen but through other biologic fluids, such as pre-ejaculate secretions or saliva exchanged through deep kissing”, they added. Zika is especially unsafe for pregnant mothers, as it can cause a serious birth defect called microsephaly.

Officials said one case involves a male Missouri resident who traveled to the Dominican Republic. “We didn’t just choose $1.9 billion from the top of our heads”, he said. Broward has the second most number of cases, at 19.

He said the county’s mosquito control budget of $1.68 million, which includes a fleet of 10 trucks and personnel, can be augmented if necessary.

As we’ve said previously, Florida – with its warm and humid climate, and proximity to Latin America – is ground zero for the virus here.

There’s been a heightened awareness of mosquito control throughout the Golden Strip.

A senior GOP leadership aide says the House is ready to meet to merge the two bills and is waiting on the Senate.

Zika is transmitted by mosquitoes carrying the virus.

“This is not an uncommon occurrence”, according to an emergency management release. Scott said. “Historically, FEMA comes in after the fact”.
