Cecil the lion update: Zimbabwe accuses Pa. hunter; hunting near park ends
‘He should be allowed to have a good night’s sleep because his conscience should be clear.
As outrage grows over the killing of Cecil the lion, Zimbabwe has called on the United States to extradite the American dentist who shot the prized big cat.
Zimbabwe is seeking the extradition of American dentist Walter Palmer, from Minnesota, for illegally hunting 13-year-old Cecil.
“We are appealing to the responsible authorities for his extradition to Zimbabwe so that he can be held accountable for his illegal action”, she said.
The AP additionally referred to as and knocked on the door at Seski’s home, which is about again amongst some woods outdoors Pittsburgh.
But in a statement issued by his attorney on Tuesday, Seski said he had engaged in a “lawfully permitted hunt” and that it happened in July, not April, as Zimbabwe officials had said.
Two other illegal lion hunts also were recorded last year in Zimbabwe, said Geoffrey Matipano, conservation director for the wildlife authority.
In Washington, a Zimbabwean diplomat said the embassy was not aware that extradition proceedings had been initiated by his government.
Details of the April illegal killing were not available, but the wildlife authority said Seski killed the animal – without approval – with a bow and arrow on land near Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, according to the Associated Press. He said he did hunt a lion in Zimbabwe in July, but he said all of the required paperwork was filled out and he had the necessary permits. Often such hunts are in preserves, with animals raised for the goal and confined in relatively small areas until they are killed.
‘Dr. Seski urgently wishes to return to his medical practice and to continue serving his patients, ‘ Linsin said. The lion was lured out of Hwange park, wounded with a bow and arrow and then tracked down and shot, conservationists said.
He is accused of “breaching hunting regulations in that he hunted without a quota and permit at his Railway Farm 31 and is also the owner of Nyala Safaris which conducted the hunt”, the authority said. Two Zimbabwean residents have been arrested and face expenses.
A Facebook page for Dr. Jan Seski Women’s Health was racking up comments on Sunday afternoon.
A website for Alaska Bowhunting Supply pictures a man identified as Seski with an elephant carcass and a caption that reads, “This Zimbabwe elephant is the sixth African elephant shot by Dr. Jan Seski”. Everything was done aboveboard’. “I’ve by no means seen him carried out something unlawful or unsportsmanlike in any respect”.
