Cedar Point roller coaster hits, kills man
A MAN has been hit by a rollercoaster and killed after he entered a restricted area at an amusement park apparently looking for his mobile phone.
Cedar Point will reopen the Raptor roller coaster Friday – a day after a park guest was struck and killed while retrieving a lost item.
Raptor is one of Cedar Park’s 17 coasters, twisting people up, down and around at speeds reaching 57 miles per hour, though Frost didn’t say how fast it was going at the time of the incident. Safety officials at Cedar Point were called to the scene and arrived quickly, but the guest passed away from his injuries.
Young was 45 years old, said Phil Frost of the Sandusky Police Department.
The Raptor is a so-called inverted coaster, with trains that hang from an overhead track.
A passenger on the roller coaster told WKYC they sat suspended on the ride for ten minutes after the accident.
Police and park officials extend their thoughts and prayers to Young’s family.
He died at 5:12 p.m. She said, “I was in shock because I didn’t know what to do”.
The ride was inspected and found to be working properly, said Cedar Point spokesman Bryan Edwards. The park itself remains open, according to the Washington Post. The enclosed area belonged to the Raptor, a large roller coaster.
