Ceiling panels fall during United Airlines flight
A United Airlines flight that had to abort a landing after a rough touch-down caused ceiling panels to fall from the roof and hit some passengers has now landed safely at Newark International Airport.
A United Airlines spokesperson told ABC that none of the 214 passengers or crew was injured.
Sometimes, planes land with a bump.
The passenger, who was not identified, said: “The pilot jerked the plane up to cancel the landing entirely”.
The plane was immediately taken out of service and is now undergoing maintenance.
However, United Airlines told NJ Advance Media the plane landed safely without an aborted landing.
As the plane was flying away from the airport an announcement came over the intercom saying, “It’s our pleasure to welcome you to Newark Liberty International Airport”, sparking some chuckles from the cabin.
Video recorded on Flight 557 shows passengers holding up ceiling panels dislodged during the shaky landing, leaving wires and insulation exposed.
And passengers were in good spirits when the pilot announced they had arrived in New Jersey, before apologising for the botched landing.
The flight, which took off from Houston, circled for about 30 minutes before finally landing to the cheers from passengers.
NBC New York reached out to United Airlines for comment, but has not yet heard back.
