Celebrate Black History Month with the Google Cultural Institute
“We are happy to announce our partnership with Nickelodeon for Black History Month for the 2nd year in a row” the advocacy group announced via it’s Facebook page”.
The talks are sponsored by the Black History Committee of the Friends of the Thomas Balch Library; Gary M. Clemens, Clerk of the Circuit Court; Oatlands Historic House and Gardens; and the Waterford Foundation. She continued the argument online in the form of tweets and blog posts. During the time of slavery, enslaved African Americans who sought to gain their freedom through escape were often assisted by others who were opposed to slavery.
In celebrating Black History Month, we can take satisfaction from this recent progress in the realization of the ideals envisioned by our Founding Fathers.
This was due in part to the Rev. A.J. Smith, who in the early 2000s inquired of a local group to form a Black History committee.
Actress Stacey Dash has caused controversy in recent weeks by arguing that there should not be a Black History Month, Black Entertainment Television or the NAACP Image Awards.

“It starts from the owners that took a chance decades ago”, she said. If we don’t want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the [NAACP] Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black.
The argument seems rooted in the fairy tale belief that the preservation, compilation and recitation of the history of blacks in the United States would otherwise have a vital existence without Black History Month.
Now that there is a Black Studies Department at the university, it is imperative that attempts be made to collect the narratives, data, maps and all related research that will lead to a true perspective of the life of African Americans in every timeline and geographical area. “It just keeps them enslaved to the people giving them the ‘stuff'”. “I want to help us move towards a more understanding, supportive and inclusive environment at all times”.
“We’re trying to embody the person”, Coleman said. “If we don’t really understand the history of people and what they have contributed, that means we are taking our society for granted”.
Events for this week and future ones are open to all members of the Union campus community.
Hammond said the Black History committee is ready for the month long celebration in Liberal. The Board’s resolution, adopted Tuesday night, states that “throughout the rich and impressive history of Loudoun County, Americans of African heritage substantially and significantly contributed to the educational, economic, social and spiritual well-being of Loudoun County in ways too numerous to count”.
