Celebrities react to Golden Globe nominations
The movie has been nominated in the best motion picture? drama alongside “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “The Revenant”, “Spotlight” and “Room”.
But first, let’s look at 10 ways the Golden Globes shook up the race.
By way of comparison, HBO had 15 Golden Globe nominations a year ago, and as high as 26 in 2002.
This is the first Golden Globe nomination for Tobias Menzies (“The Honorable Woman”, “Game of Thrones”, Casino Royale, Atonement) who plays two characters in the STARZ Original Series “Outlander”, Frank Randall the beloved husband of Claire in the 1940s and Captain “Black Jack” Randall, the Captain of the English Army in 1793, capable of monstrous acts.
Next in line for the most nominations was Adam Kay’s “The Big Short”, a financial comedy.
But Joy, which was ignored by Wednesday’s SAG Awards nominations, might find a road to bigger riches hard.
Michael Fassbender, best actor nominee for “Steve Jobs”: “This film, and working with Danny Boyle and our incredible cast, has been one of the most creative and wonderful experiences of my professional life”. Netflix’s Narcos was also nominated for best television series in the drama category.
Brie Larson – Nominee for Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama “Room”: “Wow”.
Fox, shut out previous year, landed four nominations thanks to two for “Empire”, plus Rob Lowe in the comedy actor category on its freshman “The Grinder” and Jamie Lee Curtis in its new horror-comedy “Scream Queens”.
The nominees for best supporting actress are Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Helen Mirren (Trumbo), Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs), Jane Fonda (Youth), and Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina).
A number of performers came away with multiple nods.
-Actor, Movie or Limited Series: Oscar Isaac, “Show Me a Hero”; Patrick Wilson, “Fargo”; Idris Elba, “Luther”; David Oyelowo, “Nightingale”; Mark Rylance, “Wolf Hall”. Similarly, I loved Hulu’s dark family comedy Casual, but would I have expected to see it alongside Silicon Valley and Veep on HBO, Transparent and Mozart In The Jungle (!!) on Amazon, and Orange Is The New Black on Netflix in the comedy series category? The ceremony and dinner commence the film industry’s award season. Its nominations for best picture drama (over “Brooklyn”) and best director for George Miller shows that the Warner Bros. summer tentpole has staying power. Two of the nominees, Maggie Smith for The Lady In The Van and Lily Tomlin in Grandma are way past their prime.
Netflix’s first original film Beasts of No Nation gave the online streaming service its final nom, as well as a first as a film distributor.
“The most incredible thing when these things happen, because the phone just goes insane”, said Shannon.
“I’ll make a point of that, have the blankets down a little lower”. Both of which are very good shows, which now might actually be watched by people and possibly, though probably not, considered for Emmys.

Netflix’s flagship political thriller “House of Cards” earned one nod, for best actress contender Robin Wright. The best drama award went to Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, while Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel captured the comedy category.
