Celine Dion Consoles Mourners at Husband’s Memorial, Thanks Fans for Their Support
Hundreds of mourners packed into Montreal’s famed Notre-Dame basilica to celebrate the life of Rene Angelil, music producer and late husband to Celine Dion Friday afternoon.
Rene Angelil leaves behind the couple’s three children – Rene-Charles, 15, and twins Nelson and Eddy, five – as well as three other children from two previous marriages.
Canadian singer Celine Dion talks with her husband Rene Angelil during a break in her rehearsal at the Kodak Theatre Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, in Los Angeles.
She did not speak publicly at the funeral, instead leaving her and Angélil’s eldest son, René-Charles, to deliver a touching eulogy. In the photograph, Barbra can be seen grinning and wrapping her arm around the “In light of the fact that You Adored Me” vocalist, with whom she has been companions with since 1997, when they recorded their epic two part harmony “Let him know”.
The spokesperson told New York Post gossip column Page Six, “Celine was never confirmed to perform on Saturday”.
“The support we’ve received has been such a blessing”, Dion told People at the memorial at the basilica. You are a tough act to follow but with our help everything is going to be fine.
Angelil also said his father shared his passions, especially his love of gambling. “I have to show myself, my husband and my kids and I am strong and we’re okay”, she said. Or do you think that Rene Angelil will really be the only love of Celine’s life? “Dad, I promise you here that we are all going to live up to your standards”.
His funeral will be Monday, in the Dion family’s hometown of Charlemagne, just outside Montreal.
Mainstays of Quebec’s entertainment and political scene were on hand for the funeral, including Premier Philippe Couillard, former premier Jean Charest, former prime minister Brian Mulroney, PQ Leader Pierre Karl Peladeau and Julie Synder, television personality, producer and Peladeau’s wife.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who was in Davos for the World Economic Summit, was represented by his spouse, Sophie Gregoire.
Hopefully time will begin to heal Celine’s heart and she will be able to find love once again.
Angelil’s illness, first diagnosed in 1999, prompted Dion to put her career on hold in 2014, suspending her Las Vegas residency.
